Destination Lakeside

The Lakes Aquarium is a perfect way to access the central Lakes. Whilst being away from the tourist hot spots you may access them from the Quay at the Aquarium and jumping on a beautiful cruise boat to take a leisurely cruise across Lakes Windermere.

This section of the website aims to give you the best of our local knowledge on how to make the best of your stay in the Lakes and your visit to the Aquarium.

Stay a while at Lakeside…

Away from the hustle and bustle of the central lakes, Lakeside at the southern tip of Lake Windermere offers a more peaceful pace. Lake cruises and steamers arrive from the popular towns of Bowness and Ambleside (and the steam train gently pulls into Lakeside station from Haverthwaite). Combining a visit to the Aquarium with one (or both!) of these experiences makes a truly memorable day out in one of the most beautiful parts of the Lake District.

Oscar's

Make time to relax in Oscar's restaurant while enjoying the stunning panoramic views across Windermere. Situated on the upper floor of the station building, Oscar's offers classic cuisine made from locally sourced produce, homemade breads and cakes, delicious coffees, speciality teas and cold refreshing drinks. Our chefs aim to provide healthy and imaginative options for children. High chairs are available as are facilities for warming baby food and milk. Baby changing is available in the Aquarium.

Coming soon… The new Oscar's Den!

Our new function room will be available for groups, birthday parties and school parties to use for eating, for having fun with our school resource packs or whatever you have in mind! We even have a projector available if you want to book the room for your own slide & snacks or films. The function room is to be found on the upper veranda at the back of Oscar's with fabulous views of Lake Windermere.
